Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it. -Luke 18:16-17
It’s hard to believe we’ll be coming up on our two year mark as a church this Fall. Sometimes it feels like we’ve been at this for an eternity, while at other times it seems like we just started yesterday. Regardless of how it feels, we can certainly look back and see God’s grace in many ways. One of those ways has been through the growth of Taproot Kids. Literally, there are a lot of kids in our church family! This is of course a blessing, as children are a blessing. What a privilege to disciple these little souls.
With the growth in the number of children, there also comes growing pains in providing the best discipleship possible for the children. Children’s ministries are always difficult, and this is certainly the case with a young church plant like Taproot. By God’s grace, we’ve been blessed with faithful and hard working volunteers over the last year and half, but if we’re to continue to mature as a church and serve our children well, we are going to have to grow along with them, and again by God’s grace, some of that growth is beginning to happen.
I’m excited to let you know about some healthy changes coming to Taproot Kids in the coming weeks and months that will provide several new opportunities to all who are involved with Taproot Church. Below are some of the new things you can expect to be seeing.
As I said above, there are a lot of kids in Taproot Church. We pray God would continue to bring new families to Taproot and multiply existing ones for his glory.
Samantha Buffalo has joyfully responded to the joyful burden God has placed on her heart to lead in the discipleship of the children in Taproot Church. I’m thrilled to work alongside of Samantha as she is excited, energized, and full of vision for where she wants to see Taproot Kids mature in the coming years. Already she has revamped much of Taproot Kids in a noticeable way. Megan Crider will also be serving alongside of Samantha in an administrative way that will dramatically increase our ability to communicate to volunteers and parents of Taproot Kids.
With the increase in children, there is of course the need for an increased volunteer base. Over the last several weeks, several people have shared their interest with Samantha in volunteering. This is awesome! Along with the new volunteers, Samantha is also organizing meetings and trainings to equip the volunteers in Taproot Kids to disciple the kids as best as possible.
It doesn’t seem you can ever have too many volunteers for a children’s ministry, so if you would like to volunteer, please do get in contact with Samantha.
The boys and girls club has been working on a remodel for that past few months which is about to come to a close. With that, we will also have access to more classrooms that will be more conducive to a discipling environment for the kids. Our hope with the extra space is that we’ll be able to expand Taproot Kids beyond its current scope. This will look like splitting one class into two, and down the road potentially adding more classes in order to disciples more children. The of course is something that will take more volunteers.
This is perhaps one of the more exciting changes coming to Taproot Kids. Over the next several months will be introducing a new curriculum called The Gospel Project for Kids. Right now, Samantha is working on training teachers in how to best use this curriculum. We hope to have it fully rolled out and in use by September. If you’re interested, we’ll be using The Gospel Project for Kids bible. This is an interactive bible that the kids will love to use during Taproot Kids and in your homes.
Finally, with all the new changes coming to Taproot Kids, there are several new opportunities. Our prayer for Taproot Kids is to come alongside of the parents of Taproot Church to provide the best discipleship possible. Furthermore, we want to serve new families well, and we know a healthy Taproot Kids ministry is one of the best ways we can do this.
Through the Summer, we ask that you’d be praying for the many changes you’ll be seeing in Taproot Kids. Pray especially for Samantha as she leads these changes and establishes structure for this ministry. Furthermore, please be patient with us. These changes will not happen overnight, but do know we have a goal we’re working toward.
Finally, the maturity of the Taproot Kids ministry is not possible without the involvement of the church family. Taproot Kids, though there to serve you, is not simply a service provided by the church. Our prayer is that both parents and children would be made into mature disciples of Jesus through this ministry.
